Hotel Couture, London Style // London Fashion Week

As London Fashion Week does one last twirl in front of the mirror before it hits the capital on 16th September, we take a look at some of the city’s most beautiful hotels that are, without question, fit for a fashionista. (Are you thinking about coming to London between the 16th and 21st of September? If you want to stay somewhere hot, forget about it – unless of course there’s always a suite at Claridge’s on hold for you). Here’s where the sartorial set unpack their Globetrotter luggage and get their beauty sleep during one of the most fabulous weeks in London’s calendar.

1. Boundary
Peter Prescott and Sir Terence Conran’s Shoreditch hotel, just across from Shoreditch House – which will be teeming come the 16th – is our new favourite hotel in London (there, we’ve said it). Wonderful detailing, beautiful rooms, gadgets a-plenty, stunning staff, a breathtaking roof terrace and a packed caff downstairs (perfect for East London hipster watching) mean that Boundary is still at the top of its game.

2. One Aldwych
For those whose Louboutins are too high, then a room at One Aldwych, just across the road from host venue Somerset House, is just a totter away. The fashion set will still, no doubt, be piling into their liveried Fashion Week cars for the 30-second journey across the road. Great basement pool, good sized rooms with ample bathtubs and a buzzing bar.

3. Soho Hotel
New Yorkers hot-hoofing it over the Pond will no doubt attempt to bag a room at Firmdale’s stylish Soho outpost – the Manhattanites have fallen for the company’s Crosby Street Hotel, in NYC’s own SoHo, after all. Beautifully designed rooms, thanks to the talented eye of Kit Kemp, and a busy bar make this a must-visit hotel during LFW.

4. Hoxton Hotel
For fashion designer-wannabes and supermodel hangers-on, the eclectic, clever and very cool Hoxton Hotel is Fashion Week’s budget choice.

5. The Von Furstenberg suite, Claridge’s
Where would Anna Wintour stay during London Fashion Week? Where would she kick off her heels, messy up that bob and throw her dark glasses to one side while she puts her feet up? Our money’s on Claridge’s Von Furstenberg suite. We adore Claridge’s – it’s one of our favourite places in London. Not just in terms of a favourite hotel or restaurant, but a destination in its own right. The suite boasts a baby grand piano, photography by designer Diane Von Furstenberg, a remote-controlled loo (for those who are too posh to flush, obviously), a four-poster bed and a butler. We think Ms Wintour will definitely feel right at home.

The Crosby Show

New York gets its first taste of quintessential British style thanks to the opening of Firmdale Hotels‘ new Crosby Street Hotel. With behemoths of the boutique hotel movement such as Soho Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel and Haymarket Hotel in London under their rather stylish belts, it was only a matter of time before Firmdale made the NY-LON connection. Situated in the heart of SoHo, arguably one of NYC’s most stylish ‘hoods, whilst the bustle is just feet from your door, the hotel itself sits on the pretty, quiet cobbled Crosby Street, just off Prince.
With 86 bedrooms and suites over 11 floors, as one would expect from design supremo Kit Kemp (co-owner of Firmdale with her husband) the interiors are exquisite and decidedly non-prescriptive. With flashes of beautiful printed textiles, swathes of wallpaper, quirky pieces of antique furniture and perfect lighting, the rooms are the perfect mix of contemporary and classic – all helped by the entire space being flooded with light, whether that be neon or natural, from the floor-to-ceiling windows. As well as the beautiful guest rooms, the hotel’s bar will no doubt become the perfect mid-shopping-trip stop-off for NYC’s most beautiful and best-dressed, while the leafy courtyard will be a perfect respite from the heat of Manhattan’s summer, where you can sip long cocktails and rest your weary feet.
Other cheeky extras include a 99-seat screening room (now de rigueur in the best boutique boltholes), a gym with Technogym equipment, as well as private rooms for meetings and events and unique pieces of commissioned art, right down to the railings sitting out front by metalwork designer James Garvey.
Better still are the hotel’s green credentials, making it one of the most environmentally responsible hotel builds in the US. Certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Firmdale have gone to great lengths to assure that during every stage of its design and construction have met stringent criteria.
